Spring Background Tutorial

Hello everyone! It's Delphine here today to share a spring card and a tutorial on how I did it. My card features the adorable Lucy With Bunnies released this month and a couple stencils which are perfect to add little details to cards.

I often start by doing the backgrounds on my cards, and I started this one with a piece of cardstock the size of an ATC.

I applied Faded Jeans Distress Ink with my blending tool and then a bit of Chipped Saphire on the edges, leaving a space white for grass.

For the grass, I applied Peeled Paint (my lightest colour) first, then added Mowed Lawn keeping the lower part darker and the horizon lighter.

I then used my CC Designs Butterflies Stencil and Mini Hearts Stencil to give interest to the background. I applied Sparkle Medium (a sort of coloured glittered modeling paste) with a plastic palette knife.

I then stamped a few flowers on the grass to fill the space. And my background was done :)!

For the rest of the card, I stamped and coloured Lucy With Bunnies in Copics and cut her out. I also coloured a CC Designs Cloud Die Cut in Copics, and I put it on foam squares - and did the same for Lucy. Finally I stamped a sentiment from the AmyR Hopped Up set. Here is the finished card...

Stenciling Tutorial

 

Happy Spring!  It's Kim O'Connell checkin' in today with a quick tutorial on stenciling.  Have you tried stenciling yet?  Are you intimated?  I was, too!   You MUST get over it and give it a try!   Stenciling is easy and inexpensive way to add interest to your creations!   

Start by securing your card stock down with some tape.  Then secure your stencil over it.  I am using the Flowing Flowers stencil.  

Add some texture paste to your craft mat and tint it with a few drops of your re-inker.  I chose an ink slightly darker than the color of my card stock to tint the embossing paste.

Mix it up until the well blended.  Add more ink to darken or more texture paste to lighten.  

Now spread the tinted texture paste over the stencil smoothly over the stencil.

Remove the stencil and clean right away so that the texture paste does not dry on your stencil.  Let your card stock dry completely.  I have tried to rush the drying process with a heating gun, but I've ended up causing it to scorch and bubble so be patient and just walk away and let it dry.  Once dry, you now have a perfectly textured background panel for your card.

 

And here's how I used it on my card featuring the Spring Medley rubber stamp by A Random Fan and a sentiment from the Hopped Up sentiment stamp set. 

As you can see, I went back in with a white gel pen and added freckles to her cheeks AND added white centers to the flowers.  It's a nice, touch, right?!  Easy peasy! 

If you haven't given our stencils a try, please do!   You can try this technique with the texture paste.  You can sponge some ink through the stencil.  You can use watercolors with the stencils.  So many possibilities!  You will be sorry you didn't give this a try sooner!

DIY alphabet Hi frame

I guess you all saw "alphabet Hi cards" in the past. I made my first one in 2006
and still am addicted to alphabet dies!

These are the C.C. Cutters alphabet dies C.C. Designs is offering at this time
(plus the matching numbers dies). I love every single alphabet!

They come like this.

For the Hi frame you need to cut one whole alpabet in the color you want.

Remove the bits you don't need. I added the single letters so the glass panel
from the frame so they don't get lost.

Cut out the letters H and I for the word "hi" in another color.
I don't cut the whole alphabet again. Only the letters I need now.
If I need single letters I add small pieces of paper over the single letters.

Here I added the black background under the glass panel
to see if I like how it came out. I like it :)

Think about some embellishments and/or more decoration.
I will add twine and some heart die cuts. In the end I decided
that a small light green heart will be better than a pink heart ;)

Now I use my ruler, the cutting mat's lines and
Tombow liquid glue to adhere the letters.

Add a bit of liquid glue to every letter's back and then take a stick
(I use a pricking needle!) to spread the glue.
So you won't have the problem of flow over glue.

After adding the embellishments stick the finished "Hi inlet" into your frame.
I used a simple wooden frame and painted it with green chalk paint.
And this is the place for my new DIY Hi frame. ♥

Of course you can also make greeting cards with the alphabet Hi technique!

Pixie's Background

Hello C.C.Designs fans, Andrea here with a pictorial tutorial on a background I did for a new release stamp earlier this month.

The stamp is a Pollycraft design and her name is Pixie.

This is the background 

and this is how I created it..

Using the colourless blender to create a droplet effect by holding it down on the paper for a few seconds it adds interest and dimension to the background.

So that's my pictorial tutorial if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi :)  I have a project to share today using the fabulous CC Designs Cutters Make a Card #4 Die.

I had the idea to try creating a copy of my iphone wallet case.  I knew if I could get it to work it would be a great gift card holder because my case has little slots inside for cards.

So this is my real phone and case and my copy.  I'm really pleased with how it turned out :)  Here's how I did it :

Firstly cut a piece of cardstock approx 5 3/4  x 5", score in half and position largest rectangle die off folded edge as shown and diecut.

Cut another 2 large rectangles from card. Cut 1 end off so that it is 3 1/2" long and cut end off other rectangle so that it is 3 3/4" long.  Then cut off 1 side edge of both so that they are 2 5/8" wide.

Diecut another large rectangle and cut off 1 end so that it's 1 3/4" long. Score it at 5/8" and 6/8" with straight edge against score board.  Repeat this step with patterned paper.

I then used the 1 1/2" rectangle to cut adhesive metal sheet (for "clasp"). Score it at halfway lengthwise.

Adhere the 2 trimmed rectangles to the inside of "case". I decided to leave the edges near the middle open for ease of getting cards in and out.  They fit snuggly and there is no chance of them moving.

With the smaller cut rectangle and matching patterned paper one, I adhered a magnet (Basic Grey Magnetic Disc = WONDERFUL!) to the cardstock and then adhered the patterned paper rectangle over the top of it. Then attach to the inside as shown.  I then attached the scored "metal" paper to this for the clasp.

I attached another magnet to outside of case and used a little distress ink around the edges.  I did have to attach this magnet with glue to make it stay put :)

For the "phone", I used white gloss card for a bit of extra realism, but ordinary white would work too. These are the dies I used to create it: This time using the second largest rectangle, so that phone is slightly smaller than the case.

You could cut your stamped image out using the same size rectangle die as the phone or just cut a small rectangle to fit behind the "window".

I also cut a piece of acetate to place over the top of my stamped image and behind the window.  It made it look more like a phone screen but if you don't have any, you don't really need it :)  I used pop up adhesive dots to attach the phone to the case.

 

I had already coloured up this super-cute Pollycraft stamp called Pixie and decided to use it as the image in my phone.  But one of the new teenager stamps would have been really wonderful to use. Or if it ever happens that you're not in a colouring mood, you could use a real photo instead - that would be great too.  I also used a little rectangle and corner rounded it for a sentiment card. I just stamped the birthday sentiment at the top and left the rest blank for a personal message.

 

 

This was easy to make and is a great, fun way to give a gift card.  I hope you'll give my iphone wallet card a try :)
